Physical Chemistry has a reputation for being fascinating but fearsome as well. Fascination owes to the idea that this subject has been the watershed for nearly all important branches of chemistry. The fearsome image of this branch of Chemistry, however, is only partly justified. It stands beyond doubt that the subject is abstract and needs meticulous and concentrated effort for mastery over it. The present book, which is meant for students of M.Sc. I Semester of all Indian Universities, we have deal with the subject systematically, presenting ideas in their natural order. It is our experience that students who are able to set aside their anxieties about Physical Chemistry, brought forward from previous study of the subject, do not find unusual difficulties in following the subject. They will find Physical Chemistry to be fascinating, not fearsome. I
