For the last twenty five years the author of this book along with his Research Fellows has been engaged in carrying out research work in Gas discharge and Plasma Physics both in its theoretical and experimental aspects and from time to time need has been felt for a text book in the subject which can equip the research workers in the field with a good background of the subject matter. Plasma Physics is a new branch of Physics and it is essential that basic physical ideas should be presented in a simple and straight forward way. The aim in writing this book is to present the physical processes occurring in a plasma starting from the fundamental basic principles and supplement the same with the necessary mathematical formulation for quantitative analysis. Both the physical processes as well as the contemplated possible practical applications of Plasma Physics in developing the future source of power have been dealt with.
