    I feel great pleasure in bringing out the new edition of the book "Electricity and Magnetism". The book has been rewritten according to the new U.G.C. Syllabus and latest trend of new pattern of question papers. The sequence of chapters is reordered as required by U.G.C. syllabus and some additional topics to cover syllabi of all Indian Universities. The first three chapters have been devoted to mathematical background of vectors, differentiation and Integration. The next four chapters (Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7) namely Electric Charges and Electric Fields; Electric Potential and Potential Energy, Electrostatic Problems and Dielectrics describe the concepts and problems of electrostatics. The next three chapters (Chapters 8, 9 and 10) deal with steady, transient and alternating currents. The next three chapters (Chapters 11, 12 and 13) are devoted to Magnetostatics and Time Varying Fields (Electromagnetic Induction). Chapters 14 and 15 describe Maxwell's equations and Electromagnetic waves. Chapter 16 describes AC bridges and the last chapter 17 is devoted to Thermoelectricity. Each chapter contains concepts, derivations and solved numerical examples. The solved examples have been taken from latest examination papers of various Universities.
