he study of Functional Analysis now forms as essential part of the post- graduate courses in Mathematics of all our Universities. The need for a suitable Textbook is uniformly felt by the students and teachers alike. Of course, a number of such books by foreign authors are available in India, but their approach is rather individualistic, and oriented in diverse directions, disregarding the requirements of our students. Some books by Indian authors have also appeared lately, but they too do not satisfy the needs. It has been our endeavour in this book to provide convenient reading material for the students.
