Over time, disaster management has covered a long distance. From an act of just responding haphazardly to a happening after it has struck and then forgetting about it, it has become a systemic process that includes prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The first three chapters of the volume develop conceptual framework. Chapter one defines the words disaster and management then what they mean when combined together. It also covers various steps and phases of disaster management. The second chapter explains various theories of disaster management, namely Sustainable Development Theory, Emergency Management Theory, Systems Theory, Policy Making Theory and Networking & Management Theory. Chapter three is devoted to types of disasters, both natural and man-made.
